Plan an Earth Day Brunch Fundraiser at Violi’s
(March, 31, 2010) The Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center, Inc. are busy fundraising for the Nature Center Recovery Fund Drive, following the March 2nd fire that has temporarily closed the Nature Center’s building and trails.
The first big fundraiser is an Earth Day Brunch at Violi’s restaurant in Massena, NY. The Brunch will be held on Sunday, April 25th from 11am – 2pm. The menu is extensive and mirrors the high quality food regularly served at Violi’s. Breakfast foods such as mini quiches, ham, sausage and bacon, French toast with maple syrup, fruits and an omelet station will be available. A multitude of salads, Manicotti and desserts will fill the lunch style menu. Coffee, teas, milks and specialty drinks will also be available. Participants are promised to have more than enough to choose from!
Ticket for the brunch are available through the Friend’s of the Nature Center email at: naturecenterrecovery@yahoo.com, by phoning 315-764-5498 or at the following locations:
Season’s Gift Shop in Massena
Massena Chamber of Commerce
Frenchie’s in Massena
Phil & Jackie’s in Massena
The Natural Way in Massena
Wear on Earth in Potsdam
Northern Music in Potsdam
TAUNY in Canton
St. Lawrence County Chamber in Canton
Tickets are $30 for Adults, $15 for kids 6-12 & Free for kids under the age of 5. Monies raised will go into The Recovery Fund, which will provide funding for cleaning and restoring exhibits and animal mounts which were damaged by smoke from the fire, replacing supplies that were lost when 3 storage rooms were destroyed, and keeping the Nature Center’s programs going while new facility arrangements are determined.
“We want people to understand that this is not just some little fundraiser. A fire happened and shut everything down. The Nature Center literally has not existed since March 2nd. It has been in limbo as we await decisions on plans between NYS Parks and NYPA” said Rick Marshall, President of the Friends Group Board. “While we wait, we know funds must be raised to replace all that was lost. Animals were saved, but individuals are caring for them. Programs will still take place, just in different locations. Materials are needed for these programs and animal care.”
“When a ticket is purchased for this brunch, it‘s not just for an incredible meal, it‘s for the future of the Nature Center,” Marshall added.
